The San Antonio Gender Association (SAGA) was first founded as an informal support group for transgender people in the San Antonio area all the way back in 2002.
Over the decades, SAGA has expanded its role in the community while being firmly-connected to its roots as a support group. “You should go to a SAGA meeting” is a phrase heard by many people at various stages of their gender journey and we regularly welcome new faces at our twice-monthly support group meetings.
Beyond our core as a support group, SAGA engages in community outreach and education, as well as managing a growing number of programs to assist our members and fill needs within the San Antonio LGBTQIA+ community.
To better support our more-expansive role in the community, SAGA formally became a Texas Nonprofit Corporation and obtained 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2023.
From the beginning, SAGA has been volunteer-run and community-funded by people who have a personal connection to our mission. Even today, most members of our Board of Directors are people who started engaging with the organization by attending support group meetings.
We’re proud of our vital role within the gender-diverse community and continually strive to enhance our support of our members.
