President | MacKenzie | she/her

Mackenzie’s journey with SAGA began with her regular attendance at meetings, eventually leading her to join the leadership team as Treasurer. In this role, she played a pivotal part in securing SAGA’s recognition as a 501(c)3 Organization. Her dedication and contributions didn’t go unnoticed, as she was later elected as SAGA’s President in late January 2024.

With a background as a former Firefighter/Paramedic, Mackenzie seamlessly pivoted into the transportation industry. Spending years behind the wheel of trucks, she gained invaluable experience before becoming a CDL Instructor/Examiner in San Antonio. Here, she played a crucial role in shaping the next generation of drivers, bringing her upbeat attitude and organizational skills to the forefront, both in the classroom and on the road.

Outside of her SAGA commitments, Mackenzie finds joy in a variety of interests. Whether she’s delving into the captivating world of “The Expanse”, immersing herself in video games, or engaging in lively board/card game nights with friends. When she’s not pursuing leisure activities, you can often find her tinkering with her beloved Bronco, ensuring it’s always ready for spontaneous beach trips. And if you happen to share her love for Broncos, expect a friendly gesture in the form of a rubber duck.

Vice President | Emry | they/them

After serving as SAGA’s Secretary for about a year and helping transition to a 501(c)3 organization, Emry stepped into the role of Vice President. They will use the experience gained from working with previous board members and knowledge of LGBTQ+ history to grow and further the reach of SAGA. They graduated from Texas State University with a master’s in history focusing on Public History. Emry has spent their college career studying queer history and brings their passion for the past to empower the transgender community. Emry brings their perspective as a transmasculine, nonbinary, and genderqueer individual to the SAGA team. They have also interned as an oral historian for the oH Project in Houston, Texas, recording the lived experience of individuals affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis during the 1980s.

Outside of SAGA, Emry loves all things nerdy. They are an avid lover of tabletop role playing games and wears the hats of a game master, player, and writer of a few original games. Emry also likes to remain active by walking along San Antonio’s beautiful river walk, hitting the gym, and learning to fight with a longsword.

Director of Media | Helena | she/her

This is Helena’s first foray into LGBTQIA+ activism. A San Antonio native, mother and proud UTSA MBA grad, she has spent her career in hospital administration ensuring care for the area’s people. She has a deep passion for community building, and helps organize global online transgender support communities. She brings to SAGA this same love and nurturing attitude.

Personally, Helena has a wide variety of interests and hobbies. She is an avid reader of history and humanities, and loves to spend time in deep discussions of them. She also is a passionate gamer, from the tabletop to the computer with a deep interest in strategy. Of course, not satisfied to leave what she reads on the page, Helena enjoys travelling with family and friends to see all the sights the world has to offer.

Secretary | Chy | she/they

This is Chy’s first major involvement with queer activism. Before SAGA, she was missing community. In SAGA, though, she’s found a stellar group of peers and friends. She is happy to bring her skills and abilities to the table to contribute to an organization that’s provided that community and support.

Her interests include music and video games. She studied sound engineering in community college and during that time also acted as the sound engineer for a local covers band, and occasionally helped with other live sound jobs in the area. Since then her music involvement has been small personal music projects, many with electronic music equipment. She currently works in remote customer service.

Treasurer | Jamie | they/them

This is Jamie’s first venture into LGBTQIA+ activism. Jamie served as a firefighter/paramedic prior to entering a career in pharmaceutical clinical research. They are also a registered nurse and since 2009 have had exposure to various aspects of directing clinical trials, including operations, site development and quality assurance. Jamie brings their passion for supporting gender diverse individuals to the Board of Directors, as well as their desire to increase the impact that SAGA can have on the local trans community.

Jamie enjoys travel and spending quality geek time with their daughter, including console video games, arcades, and science fiction movies. One of their more unique hobbies is target throwing, and both Jamie and their daughter enjoy the thrill of hitting wooden targets with various metal throwing objects. Jamie is also an avid reader and spends most of their reading time on either classical literature or queer content.
